Ouch!

As bad as the Diamondbacks have been this year, I can take solace in the fact that the Yankees got flat STOMPED tonight.

I can't think of any team that deserves it more than they do.

geekchik Goes International

A blogger in Japan did a trackback on my post about the bear who had a fondness for Rainier Beer.

Since I can't read Japanese, I ran the WorldLingo translator on the page in an effort to see what he (or she?) had to say.

2004 August 31st (Tuesday) The Rainier beer っ て it is funny after all,/ Of advertisement public information is thought BUSCH BEER becoming matter of concern, it has tried inspecting. Inother words as for BUSCH and BUSH as for pronunciation it is same. How seeing, the game of 36 to 1 as for the hand which it cannot been twined to Presidential election thinking that it is not, however searching BLOG the other side, as for as for this it does not comeout. Simply when it is Kelly and the Rainier being connected, how, the Monaco grace Kelly and the Rainier king. However, to fumble this quickly, as for grace Kelly as for John Kellyof the candidate for the presidency of Kerry and the Democratic party Kelly. If the Japanese however you can use, the other side it is useless, don't you think?. Simply, the news item where the Rainier beer is funny was picked up.'Smarter than your average bear' from geekchik.Com According to this blog as for commercial of the Rainier beer when large it becomes popular in eighties Seattle, forcing. However enterprise being purchased in 1999, now bottling it is done at the brewing place which is different. The person who has nostalgia in the Rainier beer of former times is many, it is the sight, that sight RememberRainier. You say that (with as for sponsor the current Rainier beer っ て there is no prejudice densely, the て it is funny)and, in the brewing place of the Rainier beer of former times, how, there is a head office of タリーズ. As for this, as for this.

I guess it didn't do so well in the translation. I can pick out bits and pieces but I can't quite put my finger on exactly where the blogger was going with this. Perhaps by doing a trackback to their blog, I can convince the author to give us an English translation of their post.

In any event, I think its a lot of fun to see that someone in Japan has stumbled on to my silly blog. Its cool to see the internet used to allow someone to comment on the thoughts of another person half way around the world.

It makes me wish that our American schools would offer up more in foreign language options.

Check out the trackback link. The website itself looks very nice, even if I can't read a word of it!

Queer Eye for the... Rocker Guy?

Rumor has it that the Fab Five will be paying a visit to KISS front-man Gene Simmons.

I can't imagine how this will even play out, but its definitely an episode to TiVo.

I called it.

From the minute I read the article saying that Paris Hilton's "missing" dog had been found, I said "I'll bet she left it somewhere and forgot about it."

Ha... I was right.

Why else would her publicist not disclose the details of where the dog had been found? Or whether or not the reward had been given?

What an airhead...

Let me get this straight...

Dave Matthews' Band is an avid supporter of MoveOn.Org, touring with Vote for Change. Hard core democrats, right? And the environment is one of their big causes, correct?

Hmm... last time I checked, dumping 800 lbs. of human excrement from your tour bus into a public waterway isn't exactly an environmentally friendly gesture.

Once again, I call to the weak minded people who let celebrities sway their vote--why do you listen to hypocrites like this? Does this sound like the action of someone who really gives a shit (no pun intended) about the environment?

Geez, these guys were just in Phoenix last night.

I hope they didn't drive near Roosevelt Lake.

Sore Loser

It doesn't really surprise me that Svetlana Khorkina is claiming that the Olympic judging was fixed. She clearly is so self-absorbed that she can't accept the fact that she may not be all she thinks she is.

First of all, why is it that the media praises her for being a graceful beauty? She looks like a lanky fawn taking its first clumsy steps! She's FAR too skinny and she has no chin. Her teammate Anna Pavlova is much prettier than she is, not to mention countless other gymnasts who competed from other countries.

This girl never smiles. She pouted constantly in Sydney, tearing off the silver medal won by the Russian team in disgust as if the rest of her team had let her down. In reality, it was her fall from the uneven bars that cost her team the gold. And another fall in the all-around event in Sydney, costing herself a medal.

Oh yeah... she fell off in the individual event in Athens last night, too.

So Svetlana, I guess you're not as good as you thought you were. Instead of being remembered for what you've accomplished in your sport, you'll now be remembered for your whining and temper tantrums.

Go have a sandwich and take a Paxil. You'll feel much better in the morning.

The Ultimate Hypocrisy

This is a perfect example of why I think organized religion is a crock.

In a day when Catholic priests are molesting young boys, I find it completely ironic that they would deny an 8-year-old girl the right to her first Holy Communion because she has an illness that prevents her from digesting wheat. Would they prefer that this child get sick and die?

Who's the better Catholic here? The former Bishop Thomas O'Brien, who runs a man down in the street and leaves him to die, or a child who wants to practice the faith but is denied that right because she can't eat gluten?

If the answer is O'Brien, why would anyone want to participate in such a farce?

Talk about a screwed up religion...

Smarter than your average bear

I have a lot of friends who are beer snobs, but a bear who's a beer snob?

Anyone who spent time in the Pacific Northwest back in the '80's remembers the great commercials that Rainier used to have. One would have to wonder how long it would have taken them to turn this little story into a marketing campaign.

Unfortunately, Rainier Beer isn't what it used to be. Rainier was bought by Pabst back in 1999 and the brewery was closed. Rainier is now bottled at the old Olympia Brewery. There are so many fans of the old Rainier that it spawned Remember Rainier, a website dedicated to preserving the old Rainier mystique.

As a bit of trivia, the old Rainier Brewery is now the headquarters for Tully's Coffee.

Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiinnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrr!!

Boycott the Boss

This is all well and good, but does anyone still buy Bruce Springsteen's records anyway?

In fact, I've never bought an album from any of the artists participating in the Vote for Change tour. And now, even if I were inclined to buy one, I definitely won't.

I'm so sick of celebrities using their fame to push their political beliefs on others. I wish more Americans would do their own research and make up their own minds. Why would you let some prima donna pop singer tell you what to believe in? They certainly aren't any smarter than the average American.

Bruce Springsteen got bad grades in high school and admits to only having one job other than singing:

"I did work as a gardener once, but that didn't last too long, even though I guess it was the only real job I ever had."

Bruce Springsteen
Rolling Stone Magazine
April 26, 1973

And I should let you tell me how to vote because ... ? And you are a good representative of the middle class because ... ?

Come on, people! Our country is becoming so devoid of common sense, its downright frightening.

I think programs like MTV's Rock the Vote are great. They encourage people to take a stand and vote for what THEY believe in, without telling them WHO they should believe in.

Encourage Independent Thinking!

Carter goes to see President Bush

Tammy's nephew, Carter, went to see President Bush last night. It's cool to see an 8-year-old kid so excited about such an event so I thought I would share.

Carter proudly displays his ticket to the event.

Here he is with the busy crowd in the background.

What a way to end the night! Carter runs into Luis Gonzales.

It looks like he had quite an evening. I'm sure his classmates will be jealous.

Kerry vs. Kerry

This just in...

Rumor has it John Kerry and wife Teresa got into a dispute Sunday night in Flagstaff, prompting her to go get a room at a different hotel.

Let's hope Drudge can dig up more dirt on this.

Toys 'Rnt Us?

It looks like WalMart isn't a thorn in the side of just grocery stores anymore. Fierce competition from discount retailers may cause Toys 'R Us to get out of the toy business. They claim there is more money to be made in the baby business, and have separated their Babies 'R Us stores into a separate entity. If things don't turn around, they plan to either sell off or get out of the toy selling business entirely.

It would be a sad day for those of us who grew up with Toys 'R Us. Back then it was the greatest place a kid could ever go (well, except maybe Disneyland). I remember picking out my Big Wheel at Toys 'R Us. And my first bike.

I even had a Toys 'R Us sweatshirt when I was in high school. You know the ones I mean... the ones that said, "I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys 'R Us kid."

Aw man, what will happen to Geoffrey?

Greed

I'm always perplexed when I hear a story of a celebrity who, once rich beyond belief, is now completely broke. Don Johnson is the latest victim of his own frivolity.

Back in the early 80's, there wasn't a bigger star than Don Johnson. Everyone watched Miami Vice. There was even a clothing line named after him, based on his Vice character. As recently as 2001, he starred in Nash Bridges, and while not exactly an Emmy award winning show, it had a decent run.

I just don't get it. How does a person squander millions of dollars in just a few years?

Actually, watching MTV Cribs should explain exactly how this happens. Some of the people featured on that show I would never guess had the kind of wealth that would justify their possessions. I suppose they are probably just so far in debt that they can make the monthly payments just as long as their popularity doesn't die down.

And if it does? That's when you sell the $950,000 ranch in Aspen.

Eeeewwww. Gross.

Alright, whoever the gross pig is who took a bite out of the Atkins bar I had on my desk and left it there... THANKS A LOT.

I don't really care about the Atkins bar. They're kinda gross anyway and I wasn't gonna eat it.

But next time, find the garbage can, will you?

Sick.

My ears are still ringing

In a continuing effort to relive my younger days, I went to see Van Halen last night at America West Arena.

The boys can still rock.

Sammy hasn't changed much. Sure, he isn't as buff or athletic as he used to be (no swinging from the ceiling this time around), but he's still the same old crazy Sammy, big grin and all.

Michael Anthony still busts out with the bottle of Jack Daniels. He even still has the JD bass (not the one he's playing in the pictures). He really hasn't changed much either.

Alex is looking OLD. He can still bang the drums, though.

Eddie... what can I say? Eddie is still the man. To this day, I don't think there is a better rock guitarist around. How he gets some of those sounds out of a guitar is beyond me. I've never heard anyone else do things like that.

But, um... somebody give Eddie a sandwich, okay?

How 'bout them Cowboys?

The Dallas Cowboys have a history of having players in trouble. Now it turns out their starting quarterback of the past couple of seasons is a cokehead.

Apparently Bill Parcells isn't putting up with the crap as coaches past have. He's kicked Quincy Carter to the curb.

Then again, Quincy was no Michael Irvin.

Get well soon...

Best wishes to Steve Jobs in his recovery from cancer surgery.

Apple has really turned things around in the past couple of years, and Steve Jobs is the man responsible. He's also responsible for creating one of the giants in animated films, Pixar Studios.

Both companies would suffer if they were to lose his creative influence. Let's hope he recovers quickly.

The Six(ty) Million Dollar Man

You know the deal is questionable when you make the Sports Headlines on the MSN main page...

The Cardinals have been notoriously bad at getting their rookies signed in time for training camp. With the personal ties between Dennis Green and Larry Fitzgerald, I'm surprised this deal took as long as it did.

Getting the Cardinals management to pony up a deal that's potentially worth $60,000,000 couldn't have been an easy feat. This is the most lucrative deal for any rookie in NFL history, pretty surprising when you consider the Cardinals' reputation of being too cheap to get big dollar players. Is this kid worth it? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

One thing is certain, Dennis Green is shaking things up. First he changes his mind about Marcel Shipp and hands over the starting running back position to Emmit, and now he cuts Pete Kendall. Rumor has it Kendall was one of the guys whining about being worked too hard in voluntary mini-camp, and that led to his demise.

I guess we had to expect some controversial decisions. Its not like anything was working for this team before. If they start to win games, he'll be a touted as a genius.

And if nothing changes, people will call for his head.
