Bent out of shape

It just chaps my ass reading all this stuff about how Glendale and the west valley are gaining so much from having the new Cardinals' stadium, knowing it could have (should have!) been built in Mesa, right in my own back yard.

People in Mesa are so stupid about these things sometimes, not looking at the big picture. Our city government is so screwed up--so in debt--that we really needed the revenue that this project would have generated to turn things around. Instead, since my non-thinking neighbors voted down the stadium, Mesa turns to things like raising sales tax and implementing a property tax in an attempt to reverse their financial shortfalls. And when the property tax is voted down, they start hacking into public programs.

Wake up, people! This would have been so beneficial to Mesa. The annual revenues from the Cardinals games and the Fiesta Bowl alone would have reversed the debt in a single year.

And don't even get me started on the Superbowl.

So while the stinky old ghetto-ass west side gushes about the new stadium, what's the big news in Mesa these days? Oh yeah, the Serial Shooters were living here.

This sucks, folks. I love Mesa, especially the great East Mesa neighborhood that we moved into last year. But between the city government who can't seem to manage our money and the ignorant people living here who voted down the stadium for the simple reason that they don't respect the Arizona Cardinals, things are going down the toilet fast. I'll be doing my part to get rid of the city government at the next election. But what can I do to educate my neighbors?

To those people in Riverview who campaigned so adamantly to keep the stadium out of their neighborhood, I say this: ENJOY THAT NEW WALMART, PEOPLE! And the Bass Proshop, too. If you think having a few football games was going to increase traffic in your neighborhood, wait until you get a load of Christmas shopping season.

Okay, I'll admit it... I'm also more than a little peeved about having to drive 50 miles to watch a damn football game now.
