The insanity that is ADOT

As if they haven't made our lives a living hell for the past couple of years with random freeway closures for legitimate reasons (adding new lanes, applying rubberized asphalt, general repairs, etc.), the Arizona Department of Transportation has decided to close the Loop 202 freeway on three consecutive weekends--so they can film a movie.

And what are the taxpayers getting in return? Zip. Nada. Zilch-O.

The movie company has generously agreed to pay for any restriping, changes to signage or repairs to damage done to the freeway, but that's it. No monetary compensation is being given for the inconvenience of having to deal with the traffic nightmare this will certainly cause.

No doubt, any restriping, changes in signage or repairs will result in yet another closure of this freeway in the not-too-distant future.

I don't really care that Phoenix is the new Hollywood. Don't impede my ability to get around this massive urban-sprawl of a city without freeway access!

Update: Interestingly enough, azcentral already archived that article. Hmmm, awfully suspicious. Oh well, here's the scoop from the less opinionated paper in the Valley, the East Valley Tribune.
