Whiners

People in this office never cease to amaze me...

You give someone who uses nothing more than Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes a 1GHz Pentium III with 512MB RAM and they complain about how slow the machine is. Mind you, some of them are on a fresh install of Windows, so we're not talking about spyware issues at all.

Funny. I've been using the same 1GHz Pentium III laptop with 512MB RAM at my office for close to four years now. I use Dreamweaver, Photoshop Elements (sometimes both at the same time) and various other applications, usually without a hiccup. Is it lightning fast? Of course not, but its plenty fast enough to get my job done. Its not like I sit around for minutes waiting for files to open.

Perception is a funny thing. These whiny people who don't understand that the new workstations have to go to the people who run high-end software irritate the crap out of me. I don't like the fact that our company depreciates computer equipment over five years either. In my opinion, its overstating the value of a devalued piece of equipment--but I live with it.

Take a valium and chill. It won't kill you to wait half a second while you toggle between your e-mail and your web browser.
