Does anyone else find it strange that the Mason Jar is turning into a gay bar? I mean, I know they're remodeling it and all, but shouldn't they at least change the name?
Any of us 30-somethings that lived here in the Valley during the late 80's to early 90's have probably been to at least one show at the Mason Jar. The place was always a dive, but it has history--and not one that really fits the gay bar scene. Hardcore rock music, mosh pits, full sleeve tattoos--not things I would expect to see in a gay bar.
No offense to gays or anything. I personally love hanging out with gay men. They make the best friends a girl could ever have. But none of the gay men *I* know would have been up for hanging out at the Mason Jar.
I guess the local rock scene has lost another legendary venue.
Still, I'd love to see what they do to the place. I might have to go check it out some night.

Posted by: submarine at March 2, 2005 10:59 PMOh man, I remember the Roxy! I think I only went there once before it turned into one of the many things it became after that.
Remember After the Goldrush (followed by Electric Ballroom)?
On the news last night, they said that they actually WERE changing the name of the Mason Jar, and that the previous owner said if he could find the right location, he'd consider reopening it again.
Why sell it in the first place then??
Posted by: geekchik at March 3, 2005 07:51 AMI went to the Electric Ballroom lots of times. Saw Dokken and Vince Neil there. Nice little venue.
I never went when it was After the Goldrush because I think that's when it had a walled off area for 18-20 year olds right? I remember my cousin went there a lot then and I really can't stand my cousin.
