How in the world does the fifth largest city in the country manage to allow its water supply to become contaminated?
Of course, I didn't hear about this until after I had left my house this morning. All I heard on the news was that only one water treatment plant in the city was operational and that City of Phoenix water customers were being asked to conserve water. If I had known, I would have brought water from home (Mesa's water is fine).
And... I would have made coffee at home.
But I work in Phoenix, and everyone here is in a panic. The grocery stores here are out of bottled water. Most of the fast food restaurants are closed. I guess the ones that are open are taking extra precautions and are using bagged ice, bottled soda, etc. Or maybe they just don't care.
Even the local Starbucks isn't serving any coffee. Apparently the extra filtration and heating isn't enough to ensure everyone's safety. I had to settle for bottled Frappuccino this morning to get my caffeine fix.
Just goes to show you how vulnerable we really are.
Scary.

Posted by: James at January 25, 2005 01:36 PMStop with the panic mentality. It is an extra 1 part per billion 1:1,000,000,000. Wen we have a high polution day, we all ingest way more than an extra 1 partice per billion we inhale. Stop with the media induced paranoia.

Everything is shut down here--that's my point. The drinking fountains and coffee pots all have signs on them saying not to use them (as instructed by the City of Phoenix).
Talk to the old ladies in the grocery store buying 55 gallons of water--when the city says the water will be fine by tomorrow at noon. They're hoarding EVERYTHING so we can't even get a few bottles to get us through the day.
You can't even get a fountain soda in this part of town. Trust me, its pretty crazy.
Posted by: geekchik at January 25, 2005 02:35 PMJust remember every time you take a drink of "clean" East Valley water that Leigh automatically pees everytime she gets in Apache or Canyon lake. She's a peeing machine.
Pissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
