All Too Familiar

Dammit.

Every time the Cardinals give me something to get excited about, they go out and take a nosedive. The game against the 49'ers was about as disappointing as any game they've lost in years.

The offense finally starts to gel a little, and suddenly the defense that has been so dominating in the first four games of the season lays an egg. The same defense who hadn't allowed a touchdown in twelve quarters of football allows two in the last five minutes of the game--when we're up by 16 points.

Oh yeah, and two 2-point conversions.

And suddenly the guy who kicks the ball nearly to the end-zone on every kickoff can only manage to get the ball to the 20 yard line in overtime. We get the stop on 3rd down but wait--personal foul! Automatic 1st down!

Egads... what a horrible game.

How nice of us to give the 49'ers their first win of the season.

The problem is you started to believe in them. You should know better.

Dan Bickley's comment in the Republic is oh-so appropriate:

"Of all the dirty, rotten tricks to play on a battered fan base, this one belongs front and center in the scrapbook of shame."
