for ruling that Jake Plummer could not continue to wear #40 on the back of his helmet without violating NFL policy.
I know that other players outside the Cardinals organization also requested to wear it through the end of the season. I don't see how wanting to honor Pat Tillman constitutes a "personal statement" and I find it particularly irritating in Jake's case. After all, they were friends and college teammates before they played in the NFL.
They can wear Reebok or Nike logos on their jerseys, but they can't wear a little sticker on the back of their helmet to honor a fallen war hero.
Give me a break.
Posted by geekchik at October 1, 2004 11:17 AMWhile I don't agree with the stance the NFL is taking, I understand why. How many "special cases" would have to be made over the years. Frankly I'm tired of these players wanting to go their own way and do whatever they want.
Look, you are paid to play football. If you don't like it, go to Canada.
