May the Force be with you!

Well, today is the day I've been waiting for--the original Star Wars trilogy finally came out on DVD!

Unfortunately for me, I pre-ordered mine on Amazon. I just couldn't take the chance that their $41.99 price (with free shipping) was for pre-orders only. I fully expected them to raise the price closer to the $70 MSRP upon release.

They didn't.

And while mine shipped today, I still have to wait for it to get here, which could take as much as a week. I find myself wondering if I should just go and buy it, then return the Amazon copy to the store once I receive it.

That would be a really geeky thing to do, wouldn't it?

Well, not as geeky as standing in line dressed in full Jedi attire at the stores who began selling it at midnight. But close.

I just can't help it. As much as I loved the original movies, I'm dying to see just this itty bitty change at the end of Episode VI, where the old image of Anakin has been replaced with that of Hayden Christensen. I didn't like some of the tinkering Lucas did before the re-release (the scene with Jabba the Hut talking to Han Solo at Mos Eisley in Episode IV just didn't work for me), but I'm not one of the purists who refuse to buy the DVD's because they deviate from the originals.

After all, this is how George really wanted them to look.

But back to my dilemma. With the hubby out of town for a couple of nights, this is the perfect time to turn off all the lights and regress back into Star Wars nerd-dom in the comfort of my own living room. So what to do?

Maybe I'll just pop in Episodes I and II to build the anticipation. That's what I get for trying to save a few bucks.
