Sounds to me like he was lighting his farts with the lighter option on his phone when it went terribly wrong.

Hello Auntie Sue!

This can happen! A battery blew up in one of our Survey/GPS units. It put a huge dent in the side of the metal casing. We had to send it away for repairs. Weird.
